During their traditional migration periods, scup will swim in to fish traps, similar to lobster traps but on a larger scale. Once the net is pulled tight the fish rise to the surface and are scooped up. Newport, RI, once a booming fishing town, is now home to only company, which still fishes in this manner. The government now limits the number of traps allowed.
